Electronic Structure of Doped Silicon Clusters and Metal Cluster-Hydrocarbon Hybrids


We aim to investigate how the electronic structure of small clusters can be manipulated by doping and hybrid formation with hydrocarbon molecules. The research program particularly focuses on the spectroscopic investigation of the size and composition specific optical properties of clusters in the gas phase, and how they can be controlled by doping and hybrid formation. The program splits into two sub-topics, that are however methodologically strongly connected: the investigation of electronic excitations i) in structurally already well characterized doped silicon clusters using transition metals and selected main group elements as well as ii) in metal cluster complexes with large hydrocarbon ligands, i.e., with diamondoids and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, PAHs.
