Welcome at Laser and Quantum Electronics
Novel Laser systems are being developed by the working group Laser Physics, Quantum Electronics and Laser Spectroscopy. Diverse investigations of their optical characteristics are being undertaken in order to optimise the system performance with respect to specific applications. The work includes optimisation of solid state and diode lasers for applications in optical data storage, in spectroscopy, in research on photosynthesis (Sonderforschungsbereich 429), and in medicine. Development of high-power solid state lasers for welding, cutting and drilling is done in close cooperation with several industrial companies as well as Laser und Medizin-Technologie Berlin GmbH, Max-Born-Institute and Heinrich-Hertz-Institute for Optical Communication Technology. To support laser system development, multilayer optical coatings are designed as mirrors or antireflective layers e.g. on glass fibers.
